Users may find that when they connect their KU email account to Thunderbird that they don't see their personal files, just basic system files. Thunderbird has a setting that prevents it from syncing all folders from the server; modifying this setting after connecting the account will resolve the issue.
- Open the Tools menu.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Server Settings under the KU account, if it's not already selected.
- Click Advanced in the Server Settings section on the main pane on the right.
- Deselect Show only subscribed folders.
- Click OK.
- Restart Thunderbird.
Once you reopen Thunderbird you will see the folders starting to sync in — this may take some time, depending on the size of your mailbox. You can view the status of the sync in the status bar located at the bottom of the window.
A note on Thunderbird, folders, and account data
Thunderbird uses IMAP to connect to your KU email account; this means that it only syncs email messages from the server, and cannot sync contacts or calendar events. However, due to the way that Exchange stores this contact and calendar information on the server, Thunderbird syncs down folders called Contacts and Calendar, both of which look to be full of error messages.
What is occurring is that Thunderbird interprets the folder as full of email messages, but when it tries to read these events or contacts as a message, it returns an error. These folders cannot be removed or modified, and are not visible in other methods of managing email, such as the Outlook desktop app or Outlook web app.
