KU's research file storage service is designed to address both primary and secondary storage needs for research data. Storage is available in increments of 50 gigabytes (GB). Stored data is accessible within the KU network or remotely via the KU Anywhere virtual private network (VPN). Although this service is subsidized by Research and Graduate Studies and KU Information Technology, there is a direct charge per gigabyte that is tied directly to a grant or funding code.
There are two tiers of Research Storage available.
Primary Research Storage
- Intended to house primary copy of research data.
- Is backed-up to tape and stored off-site.
Secondary Research Storage
- This service is offered as a secondary storage target for data that exists on a primary source elsewhere.
- This is intended as a back-up service for your data and is not written to tape or stored off-site.
Your computer must have access to the KU network in order to access shared network drives. If you are off-campus, you will need to connect to the KU Anywhere VPN before mapping or accessing a shared network drive. Please see the related article "KU Anywhere - Setup" for additional information.
