Summary

Every user who has access to the Microsoft Office Suite will also have 1 TB of online storage available for use. Users have a few different way of accessing KU's One Drive online storage solution.

One Drive Application (Install & Initial Setup)

Mac

Click here for instruction on Setting OneDrive

Launch the App Store on your Mac.
Search for OneDrive.
Click Get under the OneDrive search result.
Click Install.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Wait while the OneDrive client is installed on your computer.

Setup One Drive App

Launch OneDrive for Business by going to Finder>Applications and selecting OneDrive.
In the field provided, enter your primaryemail@home.ku.edu and press Sign In.
Enter your KU Online ID and Password if prompted then press Login.
Click Choose OneDrive Folder Location to set your OneDrive folder location.
Choose where you would like the OneDrive folder to be located and click Choose this location.
To begin syncing, you must give OneDrive permission to do so. Click Next.
Click OK.
Click Next through the introduction windows, there may be several.
Click Open OneDrive Folder. You will now be presented with your OneDrive folder, and when you add files to this folder, they will be added to the OneDrive folder of any other computers where you have an account and be uploaded to your OneDrive so they can be accessed from the Web.

Windows

These instructions apply to Windows 10 only. Click here for instruction on Setting OneDrive which pertain to Windows 10 & 11.

OneDrive for Business, including the sync client, is installed alongside other Office apps with the Office 365 suite. For instructions on installing Office 365, please see the related article Office Suite Installation and Activation.

To install the OneDrive for Business sync client without Office 365, follow these steps:

Go to the Microsoft page "Download OneDrive."
Click Download.
Click Save if prompted to save the installer. Some browsers may save the download automatically.
Go to the folder where the installer file was saved on your computer. This is most often in the Downloads folder, if you did not select a specific location.
Double-click the file to run the installer.
Wait for the sync client to complete the installation.

Setup OneDrive

Launch One Drive for Business
Once the program has launched, enter j123h456@ku.edu and click Sign in, then click Sign In again.
You will be redirected to a KU Login screen. Enter your Online ID and Password in the fields provided and click Sign In.
- Please Note: If you receive a pop-up that states "There was an error running a script on this page," select yes. This is expected behavior.
Click Next and skip to step 6. If you want to change the location of your OneDrive folder from the default location, click Change Location.
Choose a location then click Choose this location.
Select which files and folders you would like to Sync from your OneDrive and click Next; it is recommended that you select Sync all files and folders in my OneDrive.
Select the Open my OneDrive-The University of Kansas folder button, and the process will be complete. You can now drag files to this folder and they will sync to your online OneDrive account.

OneDrive - File Limitations

Below are some common limitations users may run into when storing files in OneDrive for Business.

250 GB limit per file.
20 GB worth of files in a zip.
Character limits
- file path (including file name) is limited to 400 characters.
- file paths of files synced to a PC or Mac are limited to 255 characters.
- file paths of files in SharePoint online are limited to 260 characters.
- Can’t contain these characters: \ / : * ? " < > |
Invalid file types: none. All file types are supported.
