Why can't I print? Why am I denied access to print?

No funds available in the account for printing.

If you have used all of your free printing, or do not qualify for free printing funds, you will need to have money in your Beak Em' Bucks accounts on your KU Card. Funds available for printing should appear in the small window in the top right corner of your computer screen. If you have no funds available, please follow the steps above to recharge your KU Card.

In order to receive $8.00 of free printing at the start of each semester ($4.00 during the summer), you must meet these criteria:

• Students must have a KU Card - If you have just received your KU Card, free printing funds will be available to you the following day.

• Students must be currently enrolled in classes - If you have just enrolled in KU classes, your free printing funds will be available to you the following day.

• Students must have a registered KU email address - For new students, please complete setting up a KU Online ID by going to https://myidentity.ku.edu/setup.

• Students who are employed by the university as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) are not eligible for free printing, as they are considered faculty/employees of the university. Faculty and staff do not receive free printing.

• Free printing is only available during the academic semester. This usually goes into effect the week classes begin, and ends a week after finals.

• Is the student logged in to the computer with their own Online ID? Sometimes a student may sit down at a machine which has already been authenticated.

How to request a refund / what if my document is ruined?

Refunds will be granted only for physical issues with a print job, for example: paper jamming/tearing during printing, toner running out, or other printing issues that may occur due to the print system. Refunds will not be granted for print jobs that were mistakenly printed, incorrectly formatted, or were not intended to be printed by the student.

To request a refund:

• Go to myprint.ku.edu, locate your document, and click the Refund button.

• Contact a staff member in your printing/copying location and provide the damaged documents for approval of your refund.

If approved, the refund amount will be added to your PaperCut account. The next time you print, funds will be taken from this account first, before using the funds associated with your free printing or Beak Em' Bucks account.

How can I view my fund balance?

The easiest way to see your print fund balances is to log into http://myprint.ku.edu and check your printing balances. You can also check your KU Card balances, including Beak Em' Bucks account, through myKU.

What is Print from Anywhere (Web Print)?

Print from Anywhere (Web Print) is the recommended method for printing from your own personal computer or laptop to KU public lab printers and multifunction printers (Multi-function Devices or MFDs). These devices can be accessed at any time directly through your KU online account. Print From Anywhere enables printing from your own computer without the need to install printer drivers. You must have a Beak 'em Bucks account with funds available to use Print From Anywhere unless you are using the free printing balance. Where can I print using Print From Anywhere (Web Print) and my personal laptop?

You can print to any of the following locations using Web Print:

How Do I Print From My Laptop Using Print From Anywhere (Web Print)?

Before printing, decide whether you need your document printed in color or black & white. Color charges are $0.48 per page, and black & white charges are $0.08 per page. If there is ANY color in the document, you will be charged the color price. If you want it to print in black & white, be sure to change your print settings to print in either gray scale or black and white.

1. Log into the PaperCut portal at https://myprint.ku.edu with your KU Online ID.

2. After logging in, click Web Print on the left side of the screen.

3. Click Submit a Job.

4. Select the appropriate building queue: eg. pcutgoldprd01\\Anschutz Library (virtual). Please Note: Only one print queue may be selected per job submission.

5. Click Print Options and Account Selection at the bottom of the Select a printer screen.

6. Enter the number of copies and click Upload Documents when ready to proceed.

7. Click Upload from computer and select your document, then click Upload & Complete.

   • The document must be one of the supported file types listed in Web Print.

   • The file size must be smaller than 100 Megabytes.

   • After the file is selected, the filename.extension will appear on the Upload screen.

8. The document status should say Submitting and then Rendering for a moment. If successful, the document's status will change to Held in a queue.

   • The print job is in a queue and can now be released to print to any of the locations selected above.

   • The cost will appear, but you will not be charged until you release the job for printing.

   • Jobs will be available for release from the queue for 2 hours, and then the document will be deleted.

9. To release the job to the printer, there are two options:

   • Log on to MFD (Multi-Function Device):

   1. Walk up to MFD.

   2. Press the Access key symbol.

   3. Touch Username.

   4. Enter Username, press OK.

   5. Touch Password.

   6. Enter password, press OK.

   7. Press Login.

   8. Press release tab on left-hand side.

   9. Select job to release.

   10. Press the Start button​​​​.

   • KU Card Swipe:

   1. If the MFD selected is connected to a card-swipe device, you may use your KU Card to authenticate.

   2. Swipe your KU Card and touch OK to log in.

   3. Touch Release at upper left of the screen.

   4. Touch document file name(s) to release.

   5. Press the blue Start button.

   6. Touch OK.

   7. Pick up document.

10. Press the Access button when finished to prevent misuse of your account.

Can I duplex print (on both sides of the paper), and how much does this cost?

All multifunction printers (also referred as Multifunction Devices or MFDs) can do duplex printing. You will need to select duplex printing on the options screen when you go to print your document. The cost for duplex printing is $0.08 per side.

What computer labs will this affect?

The Public printing (PaperCut) system is currently installed at the following locations:

Can I print PDFs directly from the internet or Canvas?

No. You should save the file to the desktop and open it in Paint or an Adobe program; then print.

After I have logged in, where do I go to print?

Press release on the upper-left corner of the touch screen to see a list of all the jobs on your account.

Which keyboard should I use to type in my username and password?

Use the keyboard on the left.

Where is the start button?

It is the big blue button below the touch screen.

How do I copy using the MFD machine?

Log in like you're going to print, but don't click on release. The main screen will give you a number of options for copying. Use it like a normal copier. Your KU card account will be debited.

What is the queue?

All your documents are stored in a campus-wide system. You can print your documents from any MFD machine on campus using your KU online ID.

How do I copy double-sided?

Click on duplex/combine on the touch screen. Select 1 sided -> 2 sided and follow the on-screen instructions.

Why is the copier giving me huge paper?

On the main copying screen, there are four big buttons. The second button from the left controls paper size. If it says auto-sensing or something like that on this button, it will automatically choose paper size that matches the size of the object you scan. You can click on this button and change the size to 8.5 x 11. Then, it will just scan whatever is on the left half of the glass. If you want huge paper that's doable too.

Why can't I enter my password?

Hit the button that says Username, not the text box.
