KU Anywhere - Setup

Summary

The Cisco Secure Client is available for all major operating systems including mobile devices. Non-mobile device installation software can be found here: https://kusoftware.ku.edu. This software allows access to restricted resources while working remotely.

1. Setting Entitlements - (Required)

Population	Requirements	Special Notes
Faculty, & Staff	Active HR status Access granted on or after your official start date
Student(s)	Active Student	Active student means your taking classes in the current semester. Example: A student that was enrolled in spring semester but not the summer semester will need to wait till fall semester to set an entitlement.
Vendors, Contractors	An active sponsored temporary account Account sponsor must request access to VPN and provide the entitlement we need to assign to your account.	Must be requested by your account sponsor.

Go to https://myidentity.ku.edu in your browser to access MyIdentity Services.
Click Learn More under Other Services.
Choose KU Anywhere (VPN Service at KU). If you don't see this option, this may indicate that your account isn't entitled for VPN access.
If you have questions about access to the VPN on your account, contact the KU IT Customer Service Center at 785-864-8080 or itcsc@ku.edu.
Select the VPN entitlement required for your needs.
Click Submit. It can take 1-2 minutes for the VPN Entitlements to be active.
- The user will need to disconnect and reconnect to the VPN for changes to take effect.

2. Software Installation & Initial Connection Setup

If you are on a device owned and managed by KU, Cisco Secure Client should already be installed. If the software is not installed, please see the related article "All about your KU Managed Device (Laptop & Desktops)" for installation instructions specific to KU managed devices.

Android & Chromebook

Click here for configuration instructions otherwise please proceed with installing the software.

Installation Instructions:

Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
Search the Play store for Cisco Secure Client-AnyConnect.
Tap Install to add the AnyConnect VPN client.
After software installation completes, tap Open.

Configuration Guide - Please be sure you've opened Cisco Secure Client before proceeding.
Tap OK to agree to Cisco's end user license agreement.
Tap Allow or Don't Allow for notifications based upon your preference. We recommend Allow.
Tap the Connections option.
Tap the Plus Symbol in the bottom right corner.
Fill out the server information with the following information:
- Description: KU Anywhere
- Server Address: kuanywhere.ku.edu
Tap Done.
Tap the Back Arrow.
Tap the On toggle next to "AnyConnect VPN."
Login with your KU Online ID and password to Single Sign-On if prompted.
- You will be required to complete the Duo verification process as well.
Tap Accept regarding the End User License agreement and details of KU's Policy about using this resource.
Tap OK to Cisco's Warning message about network traffic.

Your connection to KU Anywhere should be complete now.

Linux

Visit https://kusoftware.ku.edu and place an order for the KU Anywhere software package. You will be taken to the download page after successful order completion. If you are returning to the webstore to download the software again, click on My Software in the upper right corner.
Click the link labeled "cisco-secure-client-linux64-x.x.x.xx-predeploy-k9.tar.gz." X.X. XXXX is the version number that you are downloading. This will download the software package to your computer.
Save the software package to your computer if prompted to do so — some browsers will save the download automatically to your Downloads folder. The following instructions assume the file is located in your Downloads folder.
Open your Downloads folder.
Right-click the AnyConnect archive file.
Select Extract Here. This will create a directory of the same name in the Downloads directory.
Double-click the AnyConnect directory to enter the folder, and the embedded AnyConnect folder after that.
Double-click the VPN directory.
Right-click anywhere in the background of the folder (not on a file).
Select Open in Terminal. This will open a new terminal window to the VPN directory directly.
Type sudo ./vpn_install.sh in the terminal and press Enter to install the VPN client.
Type y to accept the terms of the Cisco AnyConnect license agreement, then press Enter.

Once the installation is complete, you will see an alert in the terminal that the installation is done. This will leave you with the software installed but it doesn't launch automatically, nor give you any shortcuts. To open the software please chose one of the following commands.

Launce at Startup	/opt/cisco/secureclient/bin/vpnagentd

Once the application is open you will need to enter "kuanywhere.ku.edu" into the connection box
Click Connect.
Change the group from Default to KU-Single-Signon.
Login with your KU Online ID and password to Single Sign-On if prompted.
Accept KU's end user license agreement by click Agree.

If you get an error message "You are missing the required libraries for the authentication method you requested", you will need to install additional libraries.

Fedora/RHEL	dnf install webkit2gtk4.0
Arch	pacman -S webkit2gtk

iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.)

Installation Instructions:

Open the App Store on your iOS device.
Type "Cisco AnyConnect" into the search bar.
Tap Get to download Cisco AnyConnect.
- You may be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
Go back to your Home Screen and look for Cisco AnyConnect and tap to Open.

Configuration Guide - Please be sure you've opened Cisco Secure Client before proceeding.
You may be prompted to agree to an End user license agreement, after that tap Connections.
Select Add VPN Connection.
Fill in the server information with the following details and tap Save.
- Description: KU Anywhere
- Server Address: kuanywhere.ku.edu
Tap Allow.
Tap Back.
Toggle the VPN connection to on.
Login with your KU Online ID and password to Single Sign-On if prompted.
- You will be required to complete the Duo verification process as well.
Tap Agree to KU's end user license agreement.

Your connection to KU Anywhere should be complete now.

macOS

How to obtain Cisco Client:

Open Finder.
Open Downloads, found on the left side of the pop up window.
Installation Instructions:
Double-click Cisco-Secure.pkg to start the installation process.
Double Click Cisco Secure Client.pkg.
Click Continue on this screen and the next one.
Accept the End User License Agreement by clicking on Agree.
Remove the check mark for each additional module as shown below. You screen should look similar to the one below before proceeding. Click Continue.
When you click Install you will be prompted for your password. You need to use the password you use login to your personal computer. Click on Install Software.
You can choose to Keep or Move to Trash.

Configuration Information

Open Finder.
Open Applications.
Open Cisco.
Open Cisco Secure Client.
Enter "kuanywhere.ku.edu" into the connection box as shown below.
Login with your KU Online ID and password to Single Sign-On if prompted.
- You will be required to complete the Duo verification process as well.
Click Accept for KU's end user license agreement.

Your connection to KU Anywhere should be complete now.

Double-click "Cisco-Secure.msi" to start the installation process.
Click Next.
Click I accept followed by Next.
Click Install.
Click Finish.

Configuration Information:

Click Start.
Click All Apps.
Click Cisco Secure Client.
Enter "kuanywhere.ku.edu" into the connection box.
- Click Connect.
Login with your KU Online ID and password to Single Sign-On if prompted.
- You will be required to complete the Duo verification process as well.
Click Agree to KU's end user license agreement.

Your connection to KU Anywhere should be complete now.
