Summary
Faculty, staff, students, and University affiliates are all eligible to receive emergency notification text messages from the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas Medical Center. These notifications will inform you of campus closures due to inclement weather or other emergencies, both on and around campus.
The method for alert sign up is different for each group. Refer to the “KU Alerts” or “KUMC Alerts” sections below for information on how to sign up. For additional tips and support, read the “Troubleshooting Common Issues” section.
KU Alerts - Employee Information
KU employees who wish to receive emergency notification text messages from the University must have their mobile phone number entered into the HR Pay system and be opted-in to receive alerts. Employees are automatically opted-in to receive alerts. Employees are automatically opted in to receive alerts unless they have previously opted out. To ensure that both your mobile phone number is in the HR Pay system and you are opted in, follow the steps below.

Log in to HR Pay: https://hr.ku.edu.

Click: Personal Details.

Click: Contact Details.

Under the Phone heading, click: +, click the Type dropdown menu and select: Mobile. Enter you mobile phone number, including area code and without parenthesis or hyphens, then click: Save.

Your mobile phone number will now appear under the Phone heading. Click the back arrow in the top-left to return to the previous screen.

Click: Emergency Text Message.

By default, every employee is opted-in to received emergency notification text messages from KU. To opt-out of emergency notification text messages, click: Yes-opt me out.

If you had previously opted out in the HR Pay system, but wish to receive emergency text messages, the option to click: Yes-opt me out will be present instead.

KU Alerts - Student Information
KU students who wish to receive emergency notification text messages from the University must have their mobile phone number entered into Enroll & Pay and be opted in to receive alerts. Students are automatically opted in to receive alerts unless they have previously opted out. To ensure that both your cell phone is in Enroll & Pay and you are opted in, follow the steps below.

Log in to Enroll and Pay: https://sa.ku.edu.

Click: Personal Details.

Click: Contact Details.

Under the Phone heading, click: +, click the Type dropdown menu and select: Cellular. Enter you mobile phone number, including area code and without parenthesis or hyphens, then click: Save.

Your mobile phone number will now appear under the Phone heading. Click the back arrow in the top-left to return to the previous screen.

Select: KU Emergency Texts Option.

Verify your current notification subscription settings. If you wish to unsubscribe from emergency notification texts, click: Yes-opt me out.


KU Alerts - University Affiliates Sign Up
University of Kansas affiliates who are not in KU's HR Pay system, such as members of KU Athletics and the Memorial Union, can sign up to receive emergency notification text messages from the University of Kansas by performing the following steps.

On the mobile phone you wish to receive emergency notification text messages, text: Jayhawk to number 226787.

Look for a confirmation welcome text message and follow the prompts in it for any further action.
KUMC Alerts - KU All Affiliations Sign Up
KU employees, KU students, and University of Kansas affiliates, such as members of KU Athletics, and the Memorial Union, can sign up to receive emergency notification text messages from the University of Kansas Medical Center by performing the following steps.

On the mobile phone you wish to receive emergency notification text messages, text: KUMC to number 226787.

Look for a confirmation welcome text message and follow the prompts in it for any further action.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you are experiencing issues with receiving emergency notification text messages, perform the following:

Ensure that you have followed the steps outlined above in the appropriate section.

Ensure you are following the steps in the section that matches your relationship to the University of Kansas or KUMC (Employee, student, or University affiliate).

If you are a KU employee or KU student, note whether you have previously used a text message code to opt-in or opt-out receiving emergency notification text messages, if possible.
