PURPOSE:

To establish the dates for appointment offers to faculty of other AAU institutions

APPLIES TO:

Deans, department chairs, and incoming faculty

CAMPUS:

Edwards, Lawrence

POLICY STATEMENT:

As a member of the Association of American Universities, the University of Kansas abides by the “Inter-University Understanding Relating to Transfer of Faculty Members from One Institution to Another.” This understanding specifies that the last date an offer of employment for the Fall semester should be accepted by a faculty member who holds a continuing full-time position at another AAU university is May 1. Offers made or pending after that date should be effective normally only after the intervention of an academic year.

EXCLUSIONS OR SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:

Procedure for Exceptions:

In the rare instances when a chair or dean believes conditions exist that should trigger an exception to the May 1 date, the chair or dean will describe those conditions to the Provost. If the Provost agrees that an exception should be sought, the Provost will contact the academic officer at the AAU institution where the prospective faculty member is currently employed and will ask permission to pursue the offer of an appointment effective with the following Fall semester.
