Do I need a special account?
No, anyone with a KU Online ID can download and install the software. The Satellite services will only run on a computer that is physically on the KU Campus. You can not connect to the Satellite server off campus, even if you are using KU Anywhere.

If your systems uses a Provisioning Entitlement, you will also have the ability to execute remote commands and schedule software installs and removals.
When is the service available?
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux Service is always available except during the weekly maintenance and backups. Backups will be scheduled from 2:00 am to 4:00 am each day. When maintenance is needed, there will be communications will be posted on the IT website and email notices will be sent to the departmental technical support staff.
How often are the Satellite channels and errata updated?
The satellite syncs with Red Hat between the hours 12:00 am and 1:00 am. The satellite syncs with Red Hat once a day; new patches and errata will be downloaded during this time.
Please note: If an important security errata is delivered during the day, we may be able to sync the satellite at that time and have errata available sooner than the scheduled syncs, but this may not always be possible.
How can I force a client system to update immediately?
If you are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 or 4, log into the client system as root and type: up2date -u.
If you are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Client or Server, log into the system as root and type: yum update.
Why might a system stop checking in with the Red Hat Network?
Some possible causes include:

In general, the Satellite service provides access to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux software which is still within its Red Hat life cycle. These include Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server & Desktop, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS & ES and Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3 AS & ES for both 32 and 64 bit versions.
