PURPOSE:
This policy defines conditions for the admission and enrollment of visiting students.
APPLIES TO:
Non-degree-seeking students at the Lawrence/Edwards Campus and the KU Medical Center.

POLICY STATEMENT:
Students who are eligible for visitor rates include non-degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students who are authorized to participate on a space-available basis in a regularly scheduled University course. Applicable tuition is assessed. No Lawrence or Medical Center required student and wellnesss are assessed.
Visitor rates may not be applied to coursework numbered 800 or above. Coursework taken at the visitor rate will receive a grade of NE (not evaluated). A grade of NE indicates a course that does not apply towards a degree and cannot be transferred to another university.
Undergraduate students eligible for visitor rates must apply through the Office of Admissions. Graduate students eligible for visitor rates must apply through the Office of Graduate Studies. Enrollment of visiting students may be limited; see the school to which you have been admitted for details. Students admitted to the University but not a specific school are limited to 6 hours of enrollment per semester. Special requirements may apply to high school students who wish to enroll, students previously enrolled at KU as degree-seeking and students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree. Contact the admitting office for more information.
Students eligible for visitor rates are not permitted to take courses in the schools of Allied Health, Architecture, the Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Journalism, Medicine, Music, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Social Welfare without permission from the school or department.
University requirements such as instructor and departmental permission are applicable. Restricted entry courses are marked with “Instructor Consent Required” or “Departmental Consent Required”.
Waiver Request form
Students admitted as non-degree-seeking who are eligible for visitor rates must request a waiver of the Lawrence or Medical Center required student and wellness fees using the visitor rates request form. Request forms must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar by the 30th calendar day after the first day of classes for each semester.
A student previously enrolled as a degree-seeking student at the University of Kansas may not enroll as a non-degree-seeking student until completion of an undergraduate degree.

BACKGROUND:
The authority for a visitor policy is granted by the Kansas Board of Regents. This policy was formerly incorporated in the Comprehensive Tuition and Fee Schedule, which is annually approved by the Kansas Board of Regents and published by the Office of the University Registrar.

DEFINITIONS:
Not Evaluated “NE”: A grade of NE indicates coursework that will not be evaluated and does not count toward a University of Kansas degree. Courses graded as NE are generally not transferrable to another institution.
Edwards Campus required fees: mandatory fees that cover course instruction, the student union and library privileges with enrollment at the Edwards Campus
