KU requires Duo two-factor authentication to ensure the security of KU account data, although the details differ depending on status and role and KU. Follow the appropriate panel below for understanding when/if you will need to setup Duo.
Employees:
Regardless of employment designation, employees will be required to use Duo starting on their official start date as designated by Human Resources. For employees who plan to travel internationally, you must review these other support articles and websites, as access to KU services will be restricted in a sanctioned country. You may be required to report where you're traveling to. KU IT does not grant exceptions for restricted countries.

Students:
Those that are new to KU but not enrolled in a course will not be required to enroll in Duo Multifactor. Once a student has successfully enrolled in a course, they will be required to use Duo for the duration of enrollment including in between semesters. For students who plan to travel internationally, you may need to plan ahead as access to KU resources will be restricted if you're traveling to a sanctioned country. KU IT does not grant exceptions for restricted countries.
